In August of 2009, I got a job where I did things that seemed important at the time. In November of 2009, I got promoted. In October of 2010, I got a raise, and in November of 2010 I got fired.
My job gave me a few things I really enjoyed, like community involvement and the feeling of importance.
I was wrong, and am starting to resent myself and my community, and Nebraska for being Nebraska....

Hipsters and CWS: A good mix? →
An article about what the hipsters are going to do next year when the College World Series is held down the street from the Matt and Slowdown and Film Streams.
They’re going to go back to Dundee, duh.
Suburban Under 40 →
I got picked for this! I hope I don’t sound like a moron when the profile comes out.
The secret to living happily in a suburban town is finding the coolest thing that’s going on and start doing that.
I’m on day three of Papillion Days and starting prep for August’s Arts Alive! event in Shadow Lake Towne Center.
I love Nebraska.

Neb. GOP sheriff's race decided by playing cards →
Two candidates for County Sheriff of Morrill County (where Chimney Rock is), population ~6,000, both got 379 votes in the primary last Tuesday. From the article: “People wanted to revote and do a lot of things, but unfortunately, Nebraska law is very clear,” Morrill County Clerk Kathy Brandt said.
The worst part is, it’s TRUE. Google gave me this:

It’s almost unfair how many “thanks for the new venue!” points I get on foursquare. (Every time I have a ribbon cutting for work, I enter the business into foursquare.)
Millard scrutinizes book, video →
Parents in the Millard Public School District are upset because their kids are being given reading materials from a book about Global Warming during nonfiction week.
The Kindness of Strangers
My debit card fell out of my pocket yesterday while I was helping my friend Ian canvass for his legislative campaign. Someone in the neighborhood found the card, googled me, and found my mom’s address and phone number. I’m waiting at Wheatfield’s for them to drop it off.
You know what this is? The power of the Internet combined with old-fashioned Midwestern goodwill. (They did...

Race, Comedy and West Omaha
Sometime while I was living in Phoenix, Joker’s Comedy Club in the Old Market closed. My friends and I spent many a night in that dirty little dungeon of a place, laughing our asses off at comics none of us had ever heard of. It was magnificent cross-section of Omaha’s demographics — old, young, black, white — we just wanted to go sit in the basement of a record store and laugh at somebody with a...

A Thing that Happened
I’m not typically overtly political, but I was at a candidate forum a month or so ago and a teabagger running for Lee Terry’s seat was regurgitating some Glenn Beck crap. I couldn’t help but go up to him after the event to tell him that he came off like he was… well, regurgitating some Glenn Beck crap. It bothers me when politicians trying to get votes give the same...
