You can’t really see him very well in this photo, but this is my nephew Blake. He was born Sunday morning at Methodist and he’ll be there for about a month.
Through talking to the doctors, elements of his childhood are slowly starting to take shape as we hear words like “wheelchair” and “tracheotomy.”
I am incredibly comforted by Dan Gilbert’s Stumbling on Happiness, which has a whole chapter on the happiness of individuals who have had what most people consider to be a difficult life. Gilbert states that, as you’d expect, happiness is relative.
So, to my newest relative: it was great to meet you on Sunday. May you have a happy life.
