Papillion got hit hard by thunderstorms today, right as I was driving home. I pulled these two photos from ketv.com and they show what I saw when I was leaving work. When I heard the sirens go off, I attempted to go to Megan’s house for cover (she has a basement, I don’t) and found myself in an absolute typhoon. Zero visibility, blowing my car all over the road, just out and out craziness. I realized there’s no way I’d be able to go north on 66th Street due to the huge dip in the road which had surely become a puddle by that point. I panicked and turned onto a side street and parked in the driveway of a southward facing house to block my care from the rain. The tornado sirens got louder, the car was pummeled by hail and I couldn’t stop picturing a tree being uprooted and landing on my car.
I quickly ran to the front door of the house I was parked in front of and asked if I could weather the storm with the elderly couple inside. They let me in and offered me tea. Another example of the kindness of strangers here.
Long story short, I didn’t die. For a while there, I really thought I was going to.
